The Chamber supports a pro-growth and pro-jobs legislative agenda on all levels of government. We encourage the Board of Supervisors, the General Assembly, and our Federal representatives to work with businesses to retain, create, and attract jobs.
The annual legislative agenda written by the legislative affairs committee, is a resource to enable Chamber Members to anticipate future government actions, policies, and programs that may impact their business and our community.
Two signature events provide members to hear about issues facing their businesses. The General Assembly Report in May allows members to hear our local Delegates and State Senators give an update on the latest session in Richmond.
The annual Candidates Forum in October gives Chamber members an opportunity to meet candidates on the ballot for November and ask questions regarding important issues.
Regular meetings with members of the Board of Supervisors and with congressional staff gives the Chamber input on business and community issues.
Legislative Agenda 2020
The business climate in Virginia and Fairfax County is essential to attract and retain business and workforce for economic growth. This success is reliant on a business climate that encourages both existing and new businesses to grow.
Virginia has consistently ranked high in surveys for business success due to a vision that provides a climate for business growth. Crucial elements for business growth include right to work laws, investment in education, workforce training, stability in wage and compensation structures, low costs of doing business, and a quality of life that includes low crime rates.
We support a pro-growth and pro-jobs legislative agenda on all levels of government. The Board of Supervisors, the General Assembly, and our Federal representatives must work with businesses to retain, create, and attract jobs.
In partnership with our members, community stakeholders, and elected officials the Chamber will continue to champion business growth and community strength. The 2020 legislative agenda is a framework for policy that will build on current successes and point the way to the future.
Legislative Agenda 2019
The legislative agenda outlines the Chamber’s positions on several important issues. Legislative committee chair, Mark Murray said, “A key issue in this session of the General Assembly is changes in the tax laws. Tax Conformity is a must! Our State Legislators must reform the Commonwealth’s Tax Code to reflect the new Federal Tax Laws. “
The Chamber is concerned about the steady onslaught of bills that would change the pro-business climate in Virginia. Some bills introduced in this session of the General Assembly would repeal Virginia’s Right to Work laws, increase the minimum wage, and establish laws affecting family and medical leave.
“We support decreased regulation on local businesses to allow for growth and prosperity to encourage a vibrant business community and job creation,” Murray said.
The legislative agenda is a resource to enable Chamber Members to anticipate future government actions, policies, and programs that may impact their business and our community.
